How Much is Al Michels worth?
It is another Sunday night football with out Al Michels. He is 75 he's trying to reduce his flying, he wants to stay on the west coast really, spend the golden years with his family at home. So he's going to have/ had a few bye weeks. The man has been in broadcasting since 1976 the man is a legend and he deserves a few days off. But question is how much is Al Michels really worth.
The Broadcaster is said to be worth around $30 million. No Al Michels is not writing this blog either to flex on the broke haters.
But he works in the NFL. A million dollar company. In the NFL everybody and anyone has trade value what his Al Michels trade value then? I'll Give you a second to guess

The answer is... As much as a rabbit.
As I was doing research for a blog that I never finished which I will probably revisit now since I mentioned it, stay tuned for that now.
I came across a fact that Al Michels was Traded from ESPN to NBC for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. I found this very interesting, so I decided to do a deep dive research on the topic so yous could learn about it too.
For the most part everyone reading this Blog was not passed the age of 8, 15 years ago. So none of us probably remember a time where Sunday Night football was John Madden and Al Michels. And we all lived in a world without Oswald. But we where still young enough and into Disney at the time so we know who Oswald is from the video game Epic Mickey. So we know of Oswald basically. But not the back story of how he got there.
But the world wasn't always like our post 2006 memories. In 2006 NBC final got NFL football back after a 8 year hiatus. They knew this is going to be prime time games, when you got prime time games aka the best games you need the best of everything and the announcers have to be the best. Who is Better then John Madden and Al Michels. But it was not easy getting them both right away. Both where doing ESPN/ABC Monday night football. At the time, John Madden Contract was up going into the 2006 season so he signed with NBC. Al Michels in that 2005/06 season was still with ABC/ESPN but at the end of the season he wanted to join John Again, for the 2007 season.
Now lets go back in time. In a time where Disney did not own everything. Walt Disney and Charles B. Mintz way back in 1927 created Oswald the lucky rabbit while at Universal so Universal produced all the cartoons and stuff, they owned Oswald. Walt did not have the rights to Oswald Even do he half created him. After disagreements money issues the usual mumbo jumbo. Walt Disney left to go do his own thing he had to leave Oswald. behind. But Oswald would be the prototype for Mickey
Disney empire built yeah yeah yous know the story. Fast forward 2000's. Bob Iger the New CEO of Disney [ ESPN/ABC] vowed that he would find a way to bring Oswald back home. And he saw his opportunity and struck. They'll eat up AL Michels contract in exchange for the rights to the Rabbit and some other boring stuff. Many people at the NBC/Universal studios had no idea who Oswald was since he had not been around since the early 50's. They realized he was big part of Disney and was not making them any money so they said alright we'll do it. One of the main reasons for the trade. Was the Disney CEO thought if he did not make this trade, some way, some how some where down the line he thought he would lose Mickey's rights if He did not have Oswalds rights makes no sense but what ever.
coverage of the Ryder Cup golf championship between the United States and Europe in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, as well as the right to re-air NBC coverage and extended highlights. ESPN paid a rights fee to televise the event.
Expanded Olympics highlights from this year through 2012.
Expanded highlights from Notre Dame football, the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness through 2011.
Who won this trade? I think NBC did. Oswald looked like an old Prospect in Baseball had time to ban out but hasn't done much besides a video game or two. No big movie just a lot of cameos and big bucks at the Disney parks but besides that its like a few good seasons.
Al Michels on the other hands is a super star one of the best play by play guys of all time People tune in for him. The guy can call his own shots of when he works and does not so NBC win with Al Michels
If this blogged sucked in the explanation which I hope not. Here's a video that does a good job explaining the same thing.
