Still Celebrate Jackie Robison
Today would of been Jackie Robison day, Even do we are not playing baseball and where still with out sports this day should not go un celebrated, or unnoticed. 73 years ago today the sports world has changed forever.
We all learn about Jackie Robison at one time or another. But here is a little more of a reminder refresher if you will. Jackie Robinson was from born in Georgia 1919, single parent family and 4 siblings. He was a freak of nature Athlete. When he was at UCLA he played baseball, basketball, football and track.
Unfortunately he fell on hard times and joined the Army for 2 years. Because he was court-martialed in relation to his objections with incidents of racial discrimination. So even in the Army Jackie Robinson would not stand for discrimination Why would he on the baseball field?
I would assume before the 1947 season Jackie was asked by Branch Rickey the Dodgers President about joining the Dodgers of course he said yes because why would he not want the task of reintegrating Baseball. The last time an African American was in the the MLB was 1889 when it became segregated. the outcome of the season was him becoming National League Rookie of the Year with 12 homers, a league-leading 29 steals, and a .297 average
