February 26, 1987 It maybe Ash Wednesday for us Catholics but for Hockey players its the day Brawls died in Hockey  This is the Last Bench Clearing Brawl in Hockey The last Bench Clearing Brawl was 33 years ago today.  This all out free for all war on ice was between the Quebec Nordiques who are now the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins.   Both where rivals in the Adams division. There was a minor fight in the 1st period between  Jay Miller and Gord Donnelly.  But 9 minutes into the 2nd Period and Boston winning 4-0 it was enough. It was an all out war that started when Randy Moller and Nevin Markwart threw the gloves on the ice. The broadcast says Markwart[B]s gets tangled up with Moller[N] so who started this?  I'm Gonna say those nasty Bostonians did since they got more Penalty minutes.  Everyone got involved in the action. This is the second Friday in black history month. and going into the all star break and weekend we will talk bulls. The Chicago Bulls where founded in 1966, in the middle of the civil rights era. Chicago I know there where/are some what rude racists types in the city. So there is no real 1st black player that broke the barrier. There was 3 on the first bulls roster they where Nate Bowman, McCoy McLemore, and Bob Boozer.  They would all play around 1-3 years on the Bulls. They lead the bulls to a  33-48 season, the best by any expansion team and good enough for the playoffs. So Im not trying to cop out and end the blog early or say that the Bulls have no history with African American Players. No Cap get one for the up coming season. White Sox maybe the past two weeks ish week and half have let a couple of hat designs hit the streets.  They are down below. A lot of hate for this new era hat but I kind of actually like it and if I had the money I would of actually bought it. Also if you don't agree with me on it the hat is out of stock. So alot of people like it too.  Another complain about this hat besides the odd placement of the flag and pizza. Is the actual pizza some say they don't agree that Chicago's food is deep dish. People get upset taht Deep dish is portrayed  as the official pizza of Chicago rather then the square tavern style cut that everyone usually gets. I did not watch the XFL this weekend. Was busy, don't have a team to cheer for, and actually all honesty I'm not interested in it. I focus mainly on the Bears, [ heck my name is inspired by the SNL Bill Swerski's Superfan sketch]. from the min. that I see the Bears training camp coverage on the ABC 7 news that always on at my grandparents house  which is mid or late July August till super bowl[ or when the bears season so happens to end] is all football.   Only time Im interested in the Hawks and bulls is October when their season starts or when the bears are on a rough patch for a few weeks which wont happen this year. So February/March is use it to catch up on the story lines for the Bulls and Hawks and learn as much as possible about the White Sox to be ready for opening day. This is the first Friday in Black history month and for one of my blogs this week I want to do a new segment and talk about the impact some black players have made to the Chicago Bears organization. I do not want to make a huge deep dive on African American players in the NFL because that will involve alot more research that will be done at a later time and is actually a very complex story. Tom Brady might have just played one of the greatest pranks on everyone. But before that you need some back story. Brady had alot going on the past couple weeks. His season ends in the the 1st round of the playoffs. The patriots where in foreign territory they usually have a bye that week. 1st time in his 20 year career  in he was a free agent. Guys like Gronk where saying test the market, see the world. Chiefs 31- 49ers 20 50 Years later the Chiefs are again on top of and the newest champs of the NFL  So I'm 3-4 in picking super bowls I went 9/15 in "prop picks" and... The game was a good one I guess, would of been better if the bears where in the game and won it all. But for the actual game play it was better then the last years super bowl, by a long shot.  This game story line was 49ers defense against chiefs offense and for a while there it seemed like the 49ers had stuck to the script and this one in the bag. Patrick Mahomes was throwing 2 picks and 2 more passes that could of been picked if a defender timed it right. He fumbled once and another fumble he recovered and took 4 sacks, not his best game. But the chiefs needed the defense for one game and one game only to perform at their best and guess what they showed up exactly when needed.
