My history with the bulls is very disappointing, devastating, horrible.
So Bulls are making changes soon at the GM postion with Arturas Karnisovas from the Nuggets. And you know what I think I am ready to officially join the Bulls herd and eventually get my heart broken like theses stories down below. first a little back story:
I'm a bulls fans, and I say that very lightly. I became a Bulls fan at the wrong time. No not because I missed the Dynasty in the 90's. Just wrong timing. Many people know I’m not the world biggest basketball fan. Or as huge of of a fan of the bulls as I am with the Bears and Sox’s these couple of stories are maybe why.
When I was in 4th grade I played baseball at McGuane park and our team was sponsored by a car dealership. So my team and the other team that was sponsored by them where going to go down to the car dealership and Joakim Noah was suppose to buy a car for promotional reasons or something under those lines. And all the young ball players where going to get to meet him afterwards. At the time I just started watching or getting interested in the Bulls. Probably already a few years into my what would be very average basketball career. My Aunt and Uncle just bought me a Bulls jersey for Christmas so I'm getting into the game as a whole.
I’m excited I went to Catholic school so we had to wear a uniforms everyday. But I had an out of uniform pass. Use it so I can wear my baseball t-shirt jersey with the sponsor on the back to school. My dad would get out of work early and pick me up so we could go straight to the dealership. I brought a basketball to school for Joakim Noah to sign, the marker/pen I had everything I was happy and ready to go meet a basketball star.
I was excited for the day. People where asking "Why do I have a basketball?" I got to respond with my plans for after school where Show off my baseball jersey and gonna admit I was bragging about how I was going to meet him. It was awesome, school went by fast and everything. I rush out of school my Dad is already there waiting outside. He always worked later too so he never got to pick us up all the time so that was great to.
So where standing there and I mention something like "What’s taking my sisters so long I want to go and meet Joakim Noah." My dad has to sadly let me know. Something happened so Joakim Noah canceled. and that we won’t get to meet him.
Instant heart shatter of little 10 year old, Super Fan Max. Instant frown on my mustached face.
Next day at school every asks me how it went I have to sadly tell them how I got let down
Blackhawks where good in 2010, 4th grade again. The principal wants to let us celebrate the hawks playoffs berth. So she lets us go out of uniform if we wear Blackhawks sweaters, jerseys or at least red.
Unfortunately all my red cloths where dirty or I didn’t have any type of red shirt. So I was like "I’ll wear my Bulls jersey it’s red it says Chicago, they play in the same stadium. Well apparently that wasn’t good enough for my classmates. I got hit with the "This is Blackhawks day not bulls day." "Hockey Max not basketball wrong sport." "Bulls where eliminated first round this year. Why are you wearing that" I know absolutely ruff.
But that jersey didn’t finish tormenting me. I went to day camp at Louis L. Valentine Boys & Girls Club Chicago. I only went to the Boys and Girls club in the summer. As many of my fellow camp group, kids or what ever you would call them. They went for the most part all year round. So they all where friends and it was kinda hard for me to fit in right away since they all knew each other, good at sports, and what ever. Basketball was the top sport so to fit in one day I decided to wear my Bulls jersey to camp. I woke up got dressed put it on thinking I look cool, those kids are going to like me now. Where about to leave for camp and the sports come on the news. Kirk Hinrich was traded to the Wizards last night.
Guess whose jersey I’m wearing, Yup thats right the Captain Kirks, his number 12 road red jersey. I wanted to change because, I can’t wear the jersey of the guy who just got traded last night. My mom says no we don’t have time, we have to go I can’t be late for work. So there I am in the van being lead to slaughter in the least coolest thing you can wear. A just traded away guys jersey.
I get chirped once again because of that Jersey. : "Dude he just got traded why are you wearing that?", "You know he just got traded?" " Nice Jersey guy?"
Only thing I can think of to respond was "Yeah I know he got traded I’m wearing it to honor his time as a bull to thank him. Kids where not buying that.
So I went home hung that jersey up put it in the back of the closet to get rid of it, with out throwing it away. Eventually grew out of it to never wear it again either. I tried selling it at a garage sale, and can't remember if they bought it. But I have no idea what happened to it.
So when people ask me if I like what the Bulls are doing when it comes to management, I could care less, or if I like the Bulls I have to say a little because after these heart breaks, and start watching them after being bad its hard to be apart of the herd, run with us and see red.
I think I might try and find a Kirk Hinrich jersey to be my bulls jersey after we went through the first time around. Give him a second change like the bulls did in 2012.
