Chicago Food power ranking
Was originally going to be a taste of Chicago blog so you can get the real foods of Chicago but, Where in lock down quarantine social distancing we got coronavirus destroying the world the whole thing. We might not make it to a taste of Chicago. Plus you can’t go out side local business are shut down. Specifically the Mom and Pop shops all the ones for the most part that sell Chicago foods. So I’ve got the smorgasbord board of Chicago foods and I’m ranking them, to past the time.
This is all my opinion just like DA thanksgiving food power ranking, but with Chicago food. Im just going to list and rank as many Chicago foods so let's dig right in.Deep dish and Hot Dog I don't want to cop out and say A1 A2 so this was a hard one to rank deep dish has the stereotypical popularity since its a from Chicago and only sold in this city. Hotdogs on the other hand sold all over the place but a Chicago all beef Vienna hotdog LA puts mayo on hotdogs. So top dog in the city of food is the:
1. Hot Dogs:
Chicago dogs/ dragged though the garden dogs are way better then all the other cities hotdogs combine. Heck thats how the other cities make their hotdogs combining random meats together pigs lips and cow hoofs, not Chicago hotdogs their a cut above 100% beef its like a steamed steak in a pop seed bun, its main squeeze from the bottle is yellow mustard, and thats imbedded with sweet neon green relish[ we don't know how it got that color but ignore it we love it that color],was that relish to sweet well I've got a couple little hot sport peppers to change that up. And like the city's name [Chicago means stinky onion] you got those perfectly diced white onions laying all over the place, Then the hotdog is the main star but if there had to be another one to be the supporting cast is the big daddy pickle on top wedged right in there that pickle spears no one. And to bring it all together are two slices of tomatoes[ which I don't care for] maybe a few cucumber slices and a lit sprinkle of celery salt. All this is a party in your mouth and ketchup is not invited to attend.

these two dogs perfectly describe the hard nose blue collar grabowski depression dog and the glitz and glamour north side dog |
35th red hots bell of shame
That was such a long part of the blog dedicated to hotdogs but when you're the best you give it the respect it deserves.
2. Ricobene's steak sandwich
specifically this one yeah there are steak sandwiches littered all over Bridgeport but this one king [size too] of the steak sandwich don't believe me? source
Bridgeport by the way has the best food in any neighborhood in Chicago heck it maybe the best neighborhood in Chicago its got great location to downtown the orange line Da Sox food and people.
3. Bacon buns
Bridgeport bakery bacon buns for a brief moment they where off the market but they are back. Bacon buns are a Lithuanian speciality and Bridgeport is the best ones, Crispy bacon and not like those ham ones that are like polish at Ace. These things are amazing you can't just buy one at a time need like at least 2 to be happy heck get a whole bag full. I ate like 14 in a 3 day period one time over the summer and if you put 15 in front of me I was gonna eat it.
4. Italian beef
Beef are for celebration and for parties, but good at any time. Invented at an italian wedding where they where serving chunks of meat but to many people so they got the idea to slice the meat up thin and serve on roles for all to eat. A genius idea I hope that marriage was a good and happy one that lasted and was filled with beefs.
5.deep dish
People will give me hate on this take. But Ricobene's once again saved the day with their cooking. People might say o you dont get that every time you order pizza so it doesnt rep the city right. Ok say its an every once and a while thing it can stand up on its own and you don't turn down a slice of deep dish any way. You love it your full one slice can do it but you still eat 2-3
6.Tavern style cut pizza
Another Chicago portion for more thing. Little to feed alot. Al Capone during the Depression would have is men go to the local soup kitchens with pizza's cut like this so everyone there could have slice. Thats what this pizza is all about serving alot for a little you sit down with your friends and talk the night away with a couple of slices.
7. Filberts soda
Right off that bad there can be a red flag cuz this is Chicago/midwest its pop but this is called soda. But do not doubt it he gets the pass he cool. This soda is amazing right off of Ashland and Archer
8. brownies
A Chicago invention came straight out of the Palmer House in 1893 it was the World’s Columbian Exposition Bertha Palmer she wanted the Palmer House chefs to make a a dessert for box lunches. A Chicago food that is unknown where it came from.
9. jays chips and popcorn okedoke
okedoke popcorn great cheese stain on hand level orange ness and jays chips 2 bucks at an El station that sells food or has like a corner store in their building. How can you pass up on a deal like that 2 bucks for a big bag of chips and that pop corn that can change any lunch time to a whole nother level.
10. Polish
Polish, grilled onions, and mustard on a roll amazing. that smell of those onions reminds you of a baseball game just walk in to US Cellar field and after you cross the doors to the Concourse just walloped in that onion smell love it. That charbroiled snap its amazing I'm surprised I have it at 10 now that I'm thinking about it.
11. gardenia
yes separate and a controversial take I put gardenia on pasta sandwiches so It can make the argument to stand on its own. but needs to be added exclusive Chicago food to makes it higher on the rankings because of that. Its uniqueness and ability to elevate what its on makes it an 11.
12. Chicago mix pop corn
Simple nothing special about it sweet and savory cheese and caramel. Who would of thought this would work and it does. I prefer the caramel alone but they go great together.
13. pepper and egg sandwich
a lenten Friday special can't eat meat and is not often talked about so simple too green pepper scrambled eggs on a Turano french bread roll [ also Turano another Chicago food] easy simple why only in Lent?
14. Green river pop
St. Pattys day special but good all year around I like it but do to being a heavy seasonal one hit wonder it's a low ranking. It can stand on its own but people don't give it the chance to do so. I just stocked up with the Jewels 5/$5 sale last week.
15. twinkie
this ageless wonder in 1930 changed school lunches for ever. something about that sponge yellow unhealthy killer cake that stays the same. If it does not expire you shouldn't put in your body so its a forbidden food so you gotta have it.
16. pizza puff
I haven't had alot of pizza puffs in my time but I had one a couple days ago and I don't know why I stopped eating them. well probably because their bad for you obviously just deep fried meat and a pile of french fries too. Yeah good reason why you shouldn't eat them But they are amazing.
17. Gyro
Some how made the jump to the list when I won't always go to it when I'm at a nicky's nicki's nick's. Love the meat pita okay and the onion not always love that sauce.
18. Cracker jacks
have not really had or had any recently in what the past 5 years maybe hell maybe 10 years. But it being immortalized in Take me out to the ball game is why it's still around and is at the bottom of the list.
19. pork chops
kinda on the lower side Maxwell street sells the pork chop sandwich Ditka's restaurant sells a pork chop special heck we where know as the hog butcher of the world.
20. tom tom tamales
okay had them a few times not my go to. Kinda of a weird food too. A lot of carbs corn meal tamale surfed on a hotdog bun with chilly.
21. Italian Ice
Ok once again not always my favorite thing but the different flavor options saves its frozen butt. Marios is pretty good do.
Corn
More of an IL food but who does not like corn its a great side, at thanksgiving, or everyday meal. Throw it on the grill delicious. Latter it up with butter and salt mouth is watering already. Plus Elotes everyone besides me likes those.
Cheese dog
honorable mention all beef dog with nacho cheese cant say when i had one but its a Chicago dog honorable because I cant remember if i ate one but all beef and cheese what can go wrong plain simple is good.
Wrigley gum
hate the stadium but love juicy fruit gum. sold all around the country kinda not a food since you shouldn't eat gum thats why its not on the list and down here.
Cream of Wheat and Shredded wheat
your grandpas breakfast apparently invented at the worlds fair I did not know this but who actually wants to eat this probably shouldn't be on the list but interesting fact got its way on here.
Saganaki
I know criminally low its the flaming cheese that you yell OPA when its set on fire. taste ok.
kinda of a long wild list a bunch of other foods probably are missed or don't come to mind but this is my list my ranking go make your own if you disagree
